What is the difference between a TV aerial and a satellite dish?
An aerial picks up terrestrial broadcast channels, a dish receives satellite. They are separate systems, and a house can have both.
Is terrestrial reception good in St Helena Bay?
It varies. St Helena Bay stretches for kilometres along the bay, about two hours up the West Coast from Cape Town, from the fishing harbours to holiday estates like Shelley Point and Britannia Bay, and terrain makes a real difference to terrestrial signal. We test on site before recommending an aerial.
Can one aerial feed several TVs?
Yes, with a correctly specified distribution amplifier. Simply splitting the cable weakens the signal to every TV on the run.
My aerial picture is grainy. Can it be fixed?
Usually. It is often a corroded connection, a damaged cable or an aerial that has shifted. We test the signal rather than replacing parts on guesswork.
Will the wind damage an aerial here?
With salt air off the bay, strong summer south-easters and fine wind-blown sand, a poorly mounted aerial will move. We mount to solid structure with the correct brackets so it stays where we put it.
